Dobby the house elf

Do you remember the poppet craze back in 2007? I've been tempted to make one for the last 13 years.
And I did it! I finally did it! (with some modifications, obviously to make him Dobbyish)

I made him in a day, I never realised that poppet-making was so quick! I definitely want to make more.

After we took this picture, I realised that I hadn't finished sewing his eyes down properly, so they look a bit crap here. They are better in real life.

THOSE TOESIES!!

Groot and a Roman

Here's a squishy Groot I made for a little boy. As you can probably tell, I didn't use a pattern, just sort of winged it.

He will need repotting soon, that pot's way too small!

And his brother loves Horrible Histories, so after spending an inordinate amount of time dithering because I seem to be very low on grey felt, I needle felted it, so less squishy than groot.

I was quite pleased with the sandals, something that the recipient commented on himself. Not sure why he is looking so sad though...

Teto - a fox Squirrel

Here's Teto from Ghibli's NausicaƤ of the Valley of the Wind.

He's a fox squirrel - he has big green eyes, very sharp teeth and a fluffy ruff of fur around the neck.

Hello there!

I also, fortuitously, made him life-sized and he fits quite nicely on Dan's shoulder. Here he's waiting for Dan to look up and play with him.

Ninja/Hulk battles for a little boy

So there's this little guy who likes superheroes and ninjas.

I half made a ninja and I wasn't happy with him - I'd made his ?ninja-window? too  large for a start.
So I switched to the Hulk instead.

And then I figured, what the hell, if he has both he can have ninja/hulk battles so I finished the ninja off as well!
Look at how ripped Hulk is.

A quiet book for a little girl

I was asked to make something for a little girl who loves hippos and turtles and the contrary-poppy inside of me decided to make a quiet book, because that's totally a quick and easy thing to pull together.
Scroll down to the bottom for a video.

Not the best hippo in the world, I admit.

(He's jumping in the water, thus the splosh)

So I made a hippo toothbrush, that was fun!

Dirty turtles need baths.

Who indeed?

A jelly fish and a stafish!

Pooh and a mudblood

Firstly here's a Winnie the Pooh for a little girl in Brighton.

I would have made him out of sewn felt rather than needle felted as he would have been more squishy and play with-able, but I didn't have any felt in the correct colour. (How is that possible, I have so much felt?!)

I only just had enough wool roving for him even, and his ears a little bit smaller than I would have gone with if I'd had a bit more. No more Winnie the Poohs for me during lockdown!

And Hermione Granger for her sister. I think her hair is a bit long but I thought I would the hairdressing for the recipient.

I even ran out of pink felt so she has a needle felted head. I quite like it!
