Googly eyes

A couple of little googly eyed things I've been doing between pumpkin carving.

Mini dragon for Lucy, he has shiny wings, made from fantasy film. I don't think I like them as much as the usual ones.

Another one of these for Mike.

And while we are here, random conkers. The one on the left is shouting 'nooooo' with his mouth open. Giggle.

A gormless looking rabbit

A throwaway bit of stuff also made at the parents' house, this little bunny has tiny t-rex arms.
And giant bunny feet when he sits down.

Bunny heart cutie mark. Putting him against the wall and snapping his branded arse, I felt .. kind of dirty.

Trouble in dragon world! Mum and dad dragon are hanging out with their baby when a friend of the family turns up to say hi. Dad can't help but notice the remarkably similar colourings between his friend and his son. Suspicion is cast, like an abandoned handkerchief.

Look at that face, how could anyone mistrust him?
(This is a full sized green and red dragon requested by someone at work. Probably best that he is leaving the house, I think he has caused enough trouble as it is)

A whole family of dragons!

So, after finishing Wotsit I realised I had enjoyed myself far too much to stop. Felting is really addictive! So when I went to visit my parents last weekend I took some felt and my needles and pootled away at it in the evenings while we chatted. And now I have a little family.

Look at Wotsit and Doofer gazing fondly at their little baby dragon!

Baby dragon..

Don't you just love it when they are at that toddling stage?

And here is daddy in all his splendour. Note he has side nostrils, one of the easiest ways to tell if your dragon is a boy or girl.

I love his ears. The trim on his wings is velvet, and the ears are made of the same velvet on the outside, and the dark green cotton on the inside.

Oh male dragons also have more pronounced paw markings than their lady counterparts, but usually you will only find that out if you are being trampled by one of them.

I truly am a khaleesi now!

Wire armature soft sculpture dragon

I'm so proud of this little lady! I've been trying to do wire armature for a while now, believe it or not Tom the troll was my first attempt, and then a poorly executed stoned dragon before I finally realised something that I knew but I hadn't realised that I knew - namely that it works best needle felted (and that I should never again try and make faces from clay!)

So yeah,  she has wire in her body making her fully poseable. I wish I could do her justice with my poor camera abilities, but still think it looks pretty cool (if you will excuse a little big-headedness)

Please can I have a virgin to gnaw on? Pweease?

Playful dragon is playful

It may have started to become apparent to you but it would seem I subconsciously made her very dog like. In this pose she has just done something naughty and knows she is about to get told off.
She has little red cheeks that haven't shown up that well in the photos but you can see them here.

Bum up in the air she is having a big yawn and a stretch here

Check out those needle sculpted eyebrows!

Ready for bed, with curled up tail and close furled wings.
Look at the little sculpted toesies! So happy with them!

By coaxing her onto her back with the promise of belly tickles, I managed to get this shot of her stomach.

Another cuddly dragon

I have three more dragons on the go (in varying media) but I decided against waiting until I'd finished them all to do one dragon-heavy post and post this little chap now. This is basically the same design as Dilly the dragon but I like this one more. I like that the material used for inside the wings/ears holds its shape better than Dilly's. I bought a cushion last year, reduced to £2.50 because it had a slight mark on it. The cushion pad alone would normally have cost £4 or £5 plus I got a small amount of lovely material, sort of micro-suede. It feels nice to touch. I used that for the inside wings.

So here is Rhaegel, or Puff, or... perhaps I will let his new owner name him. (Falcor would also work)

As usual, the fur was way too long for what I needed so I spent most of the weekend trimming it. I have fluff everywhere. Still, at least it is masking the purple fluff all over my clothes.

Actually, all the time I spent making him I was watching Due South (yey!) so I think if he was mine I would probably call him Diefenbaker.

Warm dragon neck pillow thingy

Here's dragon the second. This chap has a removable heat pack stuffed in his belly. Microwave it and you have a nice friendly dragon that you can wrap around your neck and snuggle with to keep warm.

I'm sure in a few months keeping warm will seem like something we would need to happen, not so much now though. But hey that works quite well seeing as I don't have a microwave. May have to heat my lavender scented heat pack toasted over dragon breath..

Curled up, waiting for winter

Dilly the Dragon

I currently have two more dragon projects underway, but this was the quickest, and dare I say it, cutest. Oh that mome rath material (originally "teddy bear chenille" throws from Dunelm Mill) really was a good buy.

Dilly (as he has been named by a colleague) has gone to work with me, and so far no one has felt impelled to take his or her clothes off upon seeing him, so that was probably a one off incident.

Oh hey, look there in the corner, it is Tom the Troll. Hi Tom!

Some sewn animals for my 100th post

Believe it or not, I actually bought a pattern for this little fella - I never buy patterns usually but the finished results looked so good. And I wouldn't like to say anything negative about the shop because the lady seemed sweet, but I can't help but thinking his bum is too small, ears too big...

...and the claim that he is life-sized is... intriguing.

I originally wanted to make a fake guinea pig so that I could dress it up, deeming that to be less sad than making clothes to dress up my real pigs in. Jury is still out on the relative sadnesses.

Nevertheless - had to be done...

A giant fake guinea pig dressed as a bee.

And then there's this little penguin

And finally this wire armature dragon. It looks really bad in the photos because I am not very good at taking pictures of small painted things. In real life it is still pretty flawed but in different ways. Which is annoying.
His arms and legs are wired and thus posable, as are the wings.

Melancholy dragon hat

No more hats for a few days, I promise

How I managed to make my dragon look so melancholy I have no idea. I was going for ferocious.

I think he is sad because he has such a big nose and the lady dragons don't fancy him.
And, lest you were worried that I didn't go over the top, here is the back. After having test-driven it, I think that a pair of legs need to be added, to counterbalance the tail and nose, it is a bit see saw-y at the moment.

Day One - Dragon Cake

What better way to celebrate St David's day in the year of the dragon than with a dragon cake?

This was terribly fun to make and probably cost about £3 in all. I made a few mistakes - should have put butter icing under the fondant on the dragon to make him smoother and definately should have iced the cake first *then* added the dragon but hey ho. Also, should have checked I had a cake tin big enough to carry the little fella.

Notice: No dragons were harmed in the making or eating of this cake.
Materials - cake, marshmallow fondant icing, buttercream icing.
